Why do people who preach peace get killed?

everyone who talks about humans loving each other is always killed, john lennon, jesus, Gandhi, everyone who was trying to help society(i am aware jesus is fictional but my point still stands) do we just naturally hate people who talk about peace? there's always a nut job to kill good guys, but when the bad guys are there they're loved? whats up with that?
